A list of 859 martyrs has been compiled in the July-August uprising. The list will be sent to the cabinet by next Monday.
This information was given by the ministry’s special assistant professor Dr. Sayedur Rahman at a meeting titled “Treatment of the injured in the July-August uprising and rehabilitation of the martyrs’ families” at the conference room of the Ministry of Health on Thursday. A press release was issued on Friday to inform about the meeting.
Speaking as the chairman, Sayedur Rahman said at the meeting that this is not the final list. The work of verifying the information of the injured and killed is still underway. If information about more martyrs is available, it will be added to this list.
All hospital directors have been instructed not to buy any medical treatment for injured patients with their own money under any circumstances. Health Secretary Saidur Rahman also said that a letter has been sent to the Finance Ministry to increase the allocation for improving the quality of food for patients undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Khandaker Zahirul Islam, team leader of the Special Cell on Mass Uprising, said that so far, we have received information on 859 martyrs from the Management Information System Department of the Directorate General of Health Services. However, this is not final. Work is underway on this matter.
At the meeting, Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, said that so far, 525 martyr families and 1,410 injured have been provided financial assistance from the foundation.
Also present at the meeting were Health Education Secretary Dr. Sarwar Bari, Social Welfare Secretary Dr. Md. Mohiuddin, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Israt Chowdhury, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Professor Dr. Abu Zafar, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Education Dr. Nazmul Hossain, among others.
